Peace Corps Namibia group 25 is fabulous and has arrived safely in Joburg where we will spend the night in this lovely hotel that has FREE wireless!! Tomorrow we fly to Windhoek and will then begin pre-service training which means learning A LOT in a short time about language, culture, and Peace Corps policies. It also means that I will have limited access to internet and phone, so blog posts will be less frequent.
If you would like to write me, I would love that! My address is:

Hey Bethie,
My cell phone rang in class yesterday morning and my students told me to answer it because it might be an emergency. To cover it up I told them that I had the phone on because one of my friends was moving to Africa to go into the PEACE Corps. Of course they didn't know what it was, so I had to tell them. They figured that was why my mood ring was on stress level, (like it couldn't have been them). They seem to be a little self-centered right now and totally could not understand why anybody would want to do that and leave cable. (This is a tough hill to climb.) But later that day I went into class, and there was a forester there talking about deforestation in Haiti, and he had pictures from when he was in PEACE (yes, I will always capitalize the PEACE in the name) Corps long time ago. The teacher told me all they kept saying was, "That was what Ms. Jones was talking to us about this morning. This guy seems kinda normal even though he works with trees. PEACE Corps might be cool." Got to love God right?
Anyway, I got your back and I might be able to make penpal letters homework assignments so you can get mail. Soon I'll post pictures of the 'cherubs.' Tell group 25 JASA has high standards for love and support.
It is in the name, it is in the name, don't let the snakes deceive you like the one in the garden of eden.

My dear Miss Jones,
You are already helping to accomplish one of the goals of PEACE Corps: educating people in the States about people in countries abroad. We can definitely continue that with some penpal work! Do you want the kids to have kids to write to here or do you want them to write to me? It would be easier to write me first and I would probably write back to the whole class and then down the road as I get to know teachers and schools here I could connect you with some students that your students could write. Use the PEACE Corps office address until January and then my address in Mariental after that.
You are an awesome teacher and an awesome sister to me, Miss Jones!
